2015-2016 Edition of the Matthieu-Bernard Essay Competition

The Société québécoise de droit international invites all eligible students enrolled in Faculties of law to submit essays for this edition of the Matthieu-Bernard Competition. Submissions must address the topic of nuclear disarmament in public international law.

Area of Law: Nuclear Disarmament in Public International Law

Award: Opportunity to be published in a standard volume of the Revue québécoise de droit international (pending approval of the journal’s scientific committee) and 500$ scholarship.

Deadline: May 1, 2016

Eligibility: Participation in the Matthieu-Bernard Essay Competition is possible individually or as a group of authors. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any law or international studies program in Quebec and Ottawa. Although the competition is open to students in areas other than law, all submitted essays will be evaluated from the standpoint of legal studies.

 

 

Presentation guidelines and Evaluation Criteria: 

All contributions must be submitted before midnight on May 1, 2016 by e-mail at the following address: info@sqdi.org.

  • Essays must not exceed 12,000 words (excluding footnotes)
  • Submissions must be in .doc or .docx format (Microsoft Word). The RQDI has adopted the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation (McGill Guide) and its Legal Style Guide. The SQDI asks participants to respect these guidelines.
  • Typeface must be Times New Roman, 12-point, or the equivalent; line spacing 1.5 to facilitate reading; and margins normal, 2,54cm (top and bottom) x 3,18cm (left and right).
  • Essays should not include a bibliography; all references should be cited directly as footnotes.
  • Submissions will be evaluated on the basis on the following criteria: 1- quality of analysis and argumentation; 2- quality of research and use of relevant sources; 3- originality in addressing the subject and relevance of research conclusions; 4- quality of presentation and compliance with guidelines
